I don't care for jewelry. Never have. A watch is pretty much my limit.
But a husband is expected to wear a wedding ring. I didn't want anything flashy, but I wanted something more than just a plain band.
I've always been interested in mythologies, Norse in particular, which is how I ended up with this: the runes Odin learned while hanging on the World Tree for nine days, each with a different meaning. I chose the runes which I thought had the most significance for a marriage that will last the rest of my life. No, I don't think they're "magical" . . . except for the memories they bring to mind whenever I look at them.
Our wedding was on Saturday 17 August 1991; she put it on my finger that day and I've never taken it off.
